Job Description

Overview:


Our client is a newly incorporated financial services company in Melbourne that has been actively trading for approximately six weeks. As a brand new venture, they are establishing strong financial foundations and seeking professional bookkeeping support to manage their rapid early-stage growth.


They are looking for a dedicated Xero-Certified AU Bookkeeper (BAS & Tax Compliance) for a fast-growing financial services startup, taking full ownership of their accounting operations from the ground up. This is an opportunity to build and maintain clean financial systems during a critical growth phase, working directly with leadership to ensure compliance and accuracy across all bookkeeping functions. You'll have the autonomy to establish best practices while managing day-to-day financial operations in Xero.


Schedule: Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM AEST (20 hours per week)


Responsibilities:


  • Complete and submit Business Activity Statements accurately and on time
  • Prepare and file company tax returns in compliance with Australian regulations
  • Submit GST payments and maintain accurate GST records
  • Perform general bookkeeping tasks including reconciling payments and accounts
  • Manage invoicing processes and track accounts receivable
  • Handle some backdating of financial records from the company's initial trading period
  • Maintain organized financial records in Xero
  • Provide additional administrative support as business needs evolve


Requirements:


  • Proven experience with BAS preparation and submission
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Australian tax returns and GST compliance
  • Xero certification (Level 1 or Level 2)
  • Strong general bookkeeping experience with Australian companies
  • University education in accounting or related field
  • Excellent English communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
