Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and strategic General Manager to lead our day-to-day business operations, drive sales growth, and oversee supply chain performance across our hardware, construction supplies, and building materials divisions.
The ideal candidate brings deep industry knowledge, a strong commercial network within the construction and trade sectors, and a proven track record of scaling revenue, managing inventory, and leading high-performing teams. You will be responsible for overall P&L management, strategic planning, vendor relations, and ensuring operational excellence across all channels.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational & P&L Leadership
- Assume full operational responsibility and overall P&L management for the hardware and building materials divisions.
- Develop, implement, and track annual business plans, operating budgets, and capital expenditures.
- Monitor key performance metrics (KPIs) including profit margins, inventory turnover, sales targets, and operating costs.
2. Commercial & Business Development
- Drive business growth by expanding relationships with contractors, commercial builders, architects, trade accounts, and retail clients.
- Develop competitive pricing models, trade credit strategies, and promotional initiatives tailored to the construction market.
- Identify emerging market trends, new product opportunities, and high-margin product lines to expand market share.
3. Supply Chain, Purchasing & Inventory Control
- Oversee procurement strategies, supplier negotiations, and vendor relationship management for hardware, tools, structural materials, and finishing supplies.
- Optimize inventory levels to balance high product availability with efficient working capital usage.
- Streamline logistics, warehousing, and delivery operations to ensure timely service to jobsites and commercial partners.
4. Team Leadership & Organizational Management
- Lead, mentor, and evaluate department managers across Sales, Purchasing, Warehouse/Logistics, and Customer Service.
- Foster a high-performance culture grounded in safety, customer satisfaction, and operational rigor.
- Ensure strict adherence to industry health, safety, and compliance regulations (e.g., job site delivery protocols, warehouse safety).
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Revenue growth and EBIT/EBITDA margins.
- Inventory turnover rate and stock accuracy.
- Trade account acquisition and retention rates.
- On-time, in-full (OTIF) delivery performance to construction sites.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 5-8+ years of progressive leadership experience in the hardware, construction supplies, or building materials industry (at least 3–5 years in a Senior Operations Manager, Business Unit Head, or GM role).
- Industry Expertise: Strong technical understanding of hardware tools, structural/building materials, fastener systems, and commercial trade supply workflows.
- Financial Acumen: Demonstrated expertise managing a P&L, budgeting, cost control, and credit management for B2B/B2C trade accounts.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (MBA preferred).
- Skills: Excellent negotiation, team leadership, strategic planning, and modern ERP/inventory management system proficiency (e.g., SAP, NetSuite, Epicor Prophet 21).
