About Tergar Schools

Under the direction of Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, the Tergar Schools project is the first of its kind, weaving together traditional Tibetan Buddhist principles and practices with contemporary approaches to learning. The project is supported by an international advisory board with a wealth of experience. The Tergar Osel Ling School, located in Sitapaila, Kathmandu is a non-profit boarding school, home to 52 students between the ages of 5 - 13, as well as 7 teachers, and 3 administrators. We are a trilingual school inclusive of  English, Tibetan, and Nepali.

Guiding principle

The view that all beings are imbued with kindness and resilience guides everything we do. Our path of learning is a process of recognizing these inherent qualities, unlocking their potential, and embodying them for the welfare of all.

Vision statement

The Tergar School fosters kind and resilient human beings who embody awareness, compassion, wisdom, and joy, and work for the welfare of all beings.

Mission statement

The Tergar School weaves together Buddhist wisdom and methods with contemporary fields of study and science using innovative teaching approaches to foster curious and creative learners who thrive in and contribute to a complex, interconnected, and changing world.
