Handicap International Federation (HI) is an independent and impartial aid organization, created in 1982, working across 63 countries. HI works alongside the vulnerable populations, whatever the context, taking action to respond to their essential needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights. Present in Nepal since 2000, HI works through a network of local partner organizations in the area of health and physical rehabilitation, inclusive education and resilience including emergency response to improve the living conditions and involvement of the most vulnerable populations in Nepal. 

HI Nepal invites application for the following position: 

Business Development Specialist – 1 position 

Mission: Under the responsibility of the Technical Unit Manager (TUM) and in collaboration with the Country Director, Operations Managers, the Business Development Specialist designs the fundraising strategy of the Nepal programme and the region. He/she identifies funding opportunities and leads the concept notes and project proposals development process, with the expected output of having documents ready for submission to donors (public institutions, foundations and private sector).

Location: Country Office, Kathmandu, Nepal

Key Responsibilities

  • Design fund raising strategy and identify funding opportunities
  • Lead the concept notes and project proposal development process and develop grant proposal in line with agreed organizational procedure
  • Monitor donors’ strategies and priorities at country/regional level in order to anticipate calls for proposals and identify opportunities for submission
  • Ensure follow up, implementation and monitoring of the fundraising strategy
  • Review the project proposal/final concept note prior to submission for compliance with donor guidelines and expectations, consistency between the budget and the technical description, and overall quality
  • Produce and regularly update a comprehensive mapping of all donor opportunities
  • Participate in the development and monitoring of the operational strategy, with particular focus on the fundraising action plan and internal project documents
  • Develop qualitative and active working relationship with strategic donors and partners in-country and in-the region, identify potential consortium
  • Coordinate and collaborate with HI national associations (IPO/IPSO) for all relevant donor proposals
  • Work with the Technical Unit Manager, Country Director and Operation Managers to strengthen HI’s external profile and influence, building key stakeholder relationships with relevant decision makers in government, national/local organizations, donors and key international organizations
  • Develop training modules on proposal writing and project cycle management for all programme staff and local partners when relevant
  • Provide training on donor rules, regulations and strategies for all programme staff involved in the writing of the proposal

Qualification and Skills Required: 

  • A minimum Master’s degree in Humanitarian/Development studies or relevant field
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in a similar role in humanitarian or development context
  • Expertise   in   proposal   development with excellent technical skills in writing
  • Creativity to explore innovative ways of developing existing opportunities and/or acquiring new grants
  • Strategic thinking and strong research to understand donor landscape, keep abreast with latest developments
  • Knowledge on The Fundamentals of Disability and Inclusion, Rehabilitation, Post-Emergency Measures or/and Education will be an added advantage
  • Strong knowledge on Humanitarian Principles, ethical values and a constructively critical mindset
  • Resilience to stress and uncertainty
  • Proficiency in written and speaking English Language
