Job Description

Context
UNICEF Regional Office for South Asia (ROSA), through effective support to country offices and strategic engagement with partners and donors, contributes to winning support for the cause of children from decision makers and the wider public particularly on key priority issues in South Asia. This includes providing technical assistance, capacity building and coordination to enhance digital advocacy in the region. UNICEF has outlined Change Strategies that are key to accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals and realizing children’s rights.

The change strategies focus on:
– harnessing digital tools,
– community engagement,
– creating inclusive and resilient societies via social and behaviour change communications (SBC)all of which encourage people-centred decision-making mechanisms and increased uptake of protective practices.

These areas of focus also benefit partnerships and engagement with public- and private sector actors, in order to accelerate progress towards the SDGs and achieve child rights at a larger scale. Many of our audiences not only seek information, but are willing to have important conversations on crucial issues concerning children’s wellbeing and rights. Our strategic focus is to ensure greater understanding, participation and meaningful engagement with our audiences such as young people, parents and political influencers across the region. We wish to win our audiences’ support for the cause of children in South Asia.

As such, UNICEF ROSA requires full-time professional support to create high quality in-house graphics, animations and videos for various UNICEF communication channels and platforms in order to visualize and disseminate the Social and Behaviour Change Communications’ resources, achievements, programs that showcase the positive impact of Social and Behaviour Change communications across the South Asia Region in a creative and engaging manner.
The selected UNV will also dedicate 20% of his/her time to the ROSA Communication & Advocacy section, to support high-quality multimedia content creation for UNICEF South Asia digital platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, TikTok and Instagram.

Task description 
Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of SBC Regional Advisor or his/her designated mandated representative(s) (80%), the UNV SBC Design Associate will:

  • Conceptualize and create high quality designs to help advance UNICEF SBC strategy.
  • Create variety of visually engaging assets which may include visualizing reports, strategies and frameworks, infographics, banners, visibility materials, digital assets etc
  • Conceptualize and develop videos, graphics and infographics in support of the SBC strategy
  • Develop creative work of the highest caliber, provide quality control over concepts and projects, contribute creative solutions and innovations that strengthen the UNICEF SBC strategy in the region.
  • Carry out ad-hoc graphic design related work as instructed by the supervisor.
  • Carry out ad-hoc video editing as instructed by the supervisor.
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Under the supervision of the Regional Chief of Communication & Advocacy and her designate, the Digital Communication Specialist (20%):

  • Conceptualize and create high quality multimedia content for UNICEF South Asia’s official digital platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, TikTok and Instagram
  • Support with and carry out video editing and graphic design on request for UNICEF South Asia official digital content
  • Work closely with the UNV Multimedia Associate to finalize, share and upload UNICEF South Asia multimedia content for internal and external use

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work.

As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
  • Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
  • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
  • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Requirements
Required experience

  • 3 years of experience in national and/or international level in the areas of graphic design and video editing; (desirable: experience using behavioural insights and research to drive development of communications collateral and dissemination strategies); Knowledge in concept and creation of specific graphic design assets, including infographics, data visualization, animation/video graphics, and interactive presentations; Ability to conceptualize unique ideas for video and motion graphics projects and advertising campaigns; Visual design sense that is creative, clean, simple, and sharp, with ability to edit as needed; Excellent IT skills, especially with design and photo-editing software (professional knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign or equivalent software); Good research and analytical skills; A keen and proven interest/knowledge in digital and social media; Experience in working in the UN or other international development organizations is desirable; Previous experience working with UNICEF and familiarity with UNICEF’s new brand, design and style guidelines is an asset; Excellent oral and written English language skills; Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging and multicultural environment; Ability to respond to short deadlines and demonstrate a quick turn-around and execution of creative work; Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; Have affinity with or interest in child rights, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

Required education level
Master degree or equivalent in multimedia, graphic design, video editing or a similar discipline OR bachelors degree on the same but with 5 years of experience.
