Job Overview

The Principal for Tergar School Osel Ling will serve as the instructional and operational leader of the school. The principal will provide a clear vision for learning for all students; lead teachers and other staff in implementing our unique school curriculum; and cultivate strong relationships with both the on-the-ground staff and international advisors. The Principal is expected to engage with both teachers and students, imbuing them with passion and curiosity for teaching and learning. The Principal will work with the international advisors and local administrative staff for selecting and assigning staff, coordinating on-going trainings, and increasing the capacity of the staff. The Principal will also be responsible for continually imagining how the school can improve in our mission. 

Essential Functions

  • Steward and operationalize a clear vision for learning for all students and oversee the implementation of our unique curriculum
  • Ensure that all school stakeholders (on-the-ground staff and international advisors) are aware of school developments
  • Ensure a safe, secure and orderly environment for all  
  • Promote high-quality instructional practices 
  • Be visible and a consistent presence throughout the school  
  • Provide teachers with timely and constructive feedback on classroom instruction
  • Clearly communicate learning and developmental goals that reflect our unique curriculum and approach for a diverse spectrum of learners
  • Develop a culture of collegial and professional relationships among staff and students that promote our core values of awareness, love and compassion, wisdom and joy
  • Manage conflict constructively at all levels  
  • Develop systems and a school culture that promotes peer feedback, support, and collaboration  
  • Coordinate the selection and assignment of staff  
  • Support the ongoing training opportunities 
  • Develop positive and collaborative relationships with local community and childrens’ families  
  • Oversee the creation of the school budget

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited educational institution  
  • Five years of full-time, paid, professional educational experience, two of which have been as a Principal or Assistant Principal, educational administrator or other leadership position at the elementary or middle school level
  • Language: Fluency in Tibetan, English and Nepali. Proficiency in local Himalayan dialects is preferred
